Three wheelers - A three wheeler, also known as the “tuk-tuk” or “trishaw” is the most popular mode of transportation in Sri Lanka. Three wheelers are a cost effective mode of passenger and goods transportation, and provides opportunities for self employment especially among youth in the low income earning communities.

 

 

2W Tractors - The two-wheel tractor is a multi-purpose vehicle that is used for basic agri-based farmer activities. It is the most affordable form of mechanization available to a farmer to improve productivity. Commonly used for plowing on both dry and wet land (with cage wheels), and for transportation of goods and services, the 2W tractor is also known for generating employment. LOMC is the largest financier of 2W tractors in the country.

 

4W Tractors -  The four wheel tractor performs the same functions as that of the 2W tractor, but it has its distinctive advantages of maneuverability and transportation of heavy loads. Used commonly for dry and upland farming, the 4W tractor is also used in the construction sector. 4W tractors are popularly used among small business entrepreneurs, and are a great source of employment for some. LOMC is the largest financier of 4W tractors in the country.

 

Motorcycles - Motorcycles are yet another vastly popular and economical mode of transportation in Sri Lanka. LOMC target market is the rural sector where the motor cycle is an affordable mode of transportation. The demand for motor cycles is propelled by inadequate round the clock public transportation in the country and the unavailability of funding from the mainstream financial institutions to purchase them. Motor cycles also help improve productivity in running of small businesses.

 

Agri-equipment - LOMC finances mini combine harvesters, reapers, threshers, and other agricultural equipment that facilitates improved productivity in the agricultural sector, as well as enables farmers to access affordable financing terms to acquire such equipment.

 

Light Weight Trucks - Light weight trucks are popularly used for small business enterprises for transportation of light and medium weight goods and services. Its ability to transport goods for short and long distances makes it ideal for improving businesses.  Commonly, used for agri, diary and farmer businesses, a majority of urban, suburban and rural business enterprises depend on light weight trucks to efficiently carry out their businesses.

 

Group Loans - targeting women entrepreneurs from the grass roots, group loans disbursed by LOMC have been aimed primarily at empowering women in these areas. At present, 90% of LOMC group loans are done by women, constituting 1/3 of our total borrowers. LOMC group loans are structured to address the specific needs and resources of the communities and its constituents, and are done through a deeper understanding of critical issues that impact rural, grass root communities.
